What is SS 316 Square Bar?
SS 316 (UNS S31600) is an austenitic stainless steel alloy containing 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum. This unique chemical composition provides superior resistance to corrosion compared to standard stainless steel grades.
The presence of molybdenum significantly improves performance in chloride-rich environments, helping prevent localized corrosion such as pitting and crevice attack. SS 316 square bars are non-magnetic in the annealed condition and cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but they offer excellent toughness, ductility, and weldability.
